PRIVATE BOOKINGS AT YOUR LEISURE
Missing your closest mates, trying to think of COVID-safe ways to celebrate a birthday, or just want to do something a little special and a little luxurious?
While private at-home gatherings are still considered high risk settings, we’re delighted to welcome you into our own home for fun and safe socially distanced crafts & art workshops for you and your friends.
Step into our gorgeous studio on Hardware Lane, Melbourne CBD, and let us treat you to some grazing plates, chocolates and bubbly, all while you enjoy expert tuition from our most experienced artists.
You'll also be showing some much-needed support for our lovely artists who have been hit hard by this most recent lockdown.
Private bookings include:
TEXTILES | SASHIKO PATCHES & VISIBLE MENDING
Learn sashiko, a traditional Japanese stitching technique used to reinforce or mend clothes. It is particularly decorative, and can be used in all sorts of creative ways. You will also find out about boro mending, a lovely layered method using sashiko stitching.
In this workshop, you’ll learn about not just traditional sashiko patterns and techniques, but also look at modern alternatives and how to design your own. We will look at techniques for patching, tools, and materials needed, tips and tricks for preparing and stitching projects, and how to draw and stitch patterned sashiko.
What will we cover?
The workshop is suitable for both beginners and more experienced stitchers. No prior sewing skills are required. We will begin with some sewing basics, learn sashiko running stitch and ways to apply your patterns and patches. Then it will be time to get creative and start stitching.
Because each mend will be different students will receive feedback on their personal mending projects and guidance throughout the process. If you don't have a garment to bring, that's okay. You can practice the techniques on provided fabric swatches. A variety of up-cycled fabric swatches will be provided for students to experiment with and to use in their mending projects.
